During North East Independent School District's school board meeting Monday, trustees took up the topic of 16 elementary school campuses possibly closing.

District spokesperson Aubrey Mike Chancellor explained, saying it is necessary.

"We're in a deficit as enrollment continues to decrease. We have to look at making some tough decisions," Chancellor said.
