Longview, Texas (KLTV) - Longview Fire Department Chief Greg Grimes provided information on how his firefighters are being used to combat fires across the state.

Grimes explained that state officials use the Texas Interstate Fire Mutual Aid System, or TIFMAS, to strategically place emergency personnel in areas where wildfires are currently burning or most likely to start."Our actual wildland crews are on the line helping suppress the fire and create the containment lines, and our MTF group is just following," Grimes said.

"They're virtually the medical crews for any of the firefighters that are operating on the Ross Fire."
