NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A bicycle safety plan covering nine East Texas counties is moving forward, but some community members say it needs to go further than tourism and recreation.

TxDOT planners presented the latest updates to the Lufkin District Bicycle Plan at a Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Friday, gathering public feedback on safety gaps, road conditions, and long-distance cycling routes across the region.

The plan covers Angelina, Houston, Nacogdoches, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, and Trinity counties.
