BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - As we age, things like wills and estate planning become more and more important to our families, and that's especially true for farmers and ranchers."So many of these issues, nobody really pays attention to or thinks about until they're a problem, and so that's one thing we really try to encourage folks is let's get ahead of issues that might come up. Let's have a plan," Tiffany Dowell Lashmet, a Texas A&M AgriLife professor and extension specialist in agricultural law, said.

She said there are lots of questions for a lot of farm and ranch families."Are we going to be able to pass this to the next generation? Is that something that they want to do?" Dowell Lashmet asked.

"Is that something that they can afford to do?"She said there are several ways to design a plan as it relates to protecting land or making sure it passes down to the next generation.
