In this week's episode of Student News Now on KXAN+, the Austin Independent School District said it plans to immediately close Paredes Middle School after district leaders determined that academic growth has not progressed over the past year.

According to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) accountability ratings, Paredes scored a 'F' grade in the past three consecutive school years.

The move comes just weeks before the start of the 2026-27 school year.
