SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - Sherman streets are on track for repairs under a new city maintenance plan."Our new plan has us around 25, maybe a little bit over that miles per year of maintenance and reconstruction," said Shawn Teamann, Sherman mayor.
The average city street has a lifespan of about 12 years, so if the city hits at least 25 miles of road per year, streets will get fixed at the right pace."Historically, if you were only doing 8 miles or even less than that per year, sometimes the street wouldn't have been touched for 40 or 50 years and maybe even more than that," Teamann said.
The city has also swapped chip seal for asphalt, expanding road durability."Repairing that base substrate and then coming back with asphalt instead of chip seal is not only making for a better finished product, but it's also expanding the life of those streets," Teamann said.
