PEARSALL, Texas - Protesters demanded the release of a man who was shot by an immigration official from the South Texas Immigration and Customs Enforcement Processing Center in Pearsall on Sunday.

"We're demanding that he get surgery to remove that bullet," organizer David Torres said, "and we're demanding the detention centers close, and deportations must stop." Tensions rose about 10 minutes after the protest began when law enforcement instructed protesters to not block the street.

Officers soon pushed them to the sidewalk, but that was the extent of contact KSAT observed Sunday.
