Growing up in Austin, all the kids in Itzayana Mondragn's neighborhood looked pretty much like her - and spoke Spanish too.

Soon after Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016, Mondragn noticed that some of her friends had stopped attending class.

She would learn later that those classmates were undocumented and had returned to their home countries - some out of fear, some against their will, as Trump delivered on his campaign promise to crack down on illegal immigration.
