Gov. Greg Abbott formally requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration Friday to support Texas' response and recovery from this week's flooding, covering 28 counties including Kerr County, with more counties possible as damage assessments continue.

Abbott made the announcement while visiting Uvalde County, one of the hardest-hit areas in the state, where he toured damage and met with state and local officials coordinating the response at the SSGT Willie de Leon Civic Center.

"The Uvalde Community was hit very hard, but its residents are strong and resilient," Abbott said.
