LAMAR COUNTY, Texas (KXII) - A man with a history of domestic violence convictions was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty on two domestic violence charges by a Lamar County jury Monday.

The Lamar County District Attorney's Office stated that Anthony Dorsett Smith, 46, was convicted on two counts of family violence assault for strangling his girlfriend.

The district attorney's office said that Smith held his girlfriend captive in motel rooms in Sherman and Paris for several months, and he was arrested after her family reported their concerns to Paris police.
