Uvalde County Commissioners approved $25,431 in stipends for county clerk staff Oct. 13 in a 3-1 vote, accepting a figure Commissioner Roy Kothmann suggested that fell $39,569 short of county clerk Donna M. Williams' $65,000 request.

Commissioner John Yeackle opposed the stipend request altogether.

Williams has sought higher pay for her staff for years.
