LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - Longview city councilmembers approved a contract to perform a safety audit of the city's public works department Thursday following a fatal workplace accident in March.

Buddy Paul Powell, 23, worked as part of the Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection crew.

A death inquest provided by Gregg County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace B.H. Jameson states Powell was fatally hit in the head with a high-pressure hose on March 16. The city approved the contract with a third-party company, greenlighting the $86,000 audit.
