Comal County Commissioners approved an amended memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Great Springs Project related to the expansion of the county-owned Morton Preserve on Oct. 22.
The agreement will help the county move forward with acquiring a 300-acre plot to the west and 174-acre conservation easement to the east of the preserve to expand the environmentally protected land.
In November of 2024, the county applied for a grant from the United States Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS) to assist them in purchasing the 300 acres from the Leissner family and obtaining a conservation easement on the 174 acres owned by the Fowler family, County Engineer Robert Boyd said.
