The New Braunfels City Council approved the installation of the national motto, "In God We Trust," in council chambers at the regular meeting on Oct. 12.

The item was requested by Councilmember Nikki Shaw, who said the motto would be a unifying message to display in city hall.

"The national motto is a patriotic statement, it's not a religious statement, it's a patriotic statement," Shaw said.
