City of Liberty falls victim to $600,000 wire transfer fraud, officials say

LIBERTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Officials with the City of Liberty said it fell victim to a fraudulent wire transfer of about $600,000.

In a press release, the City of Liberty said it was notified through its bank.

The city said the transfer was initiated in response to a payment request received from an email domain that appeared to be impersonating a legitimate vendor to whom the city owed payment.
