CRYSTAL BEACH, Texas - A red tide bloom has been reported along the Upper Texas Coast, including the Bolivar Peninsula near Crystal Beach.

According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, water samples collected in the area showed a moderate concentration of the algae, while fish kills and respiratory symptoms were also reported from September 7-11.

Red tide is a naturally occurring buildup of microscopic algae.
