KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - Shelter animals in Killeen could get faster, better medical care, and a better shot at adoption, thanks to a renewed agreement between the city and Fort Hood.

Killeen Animal Services signed a one-year Memorandum of Understanding with Fort Hood's 43rd Medical Detachment (Veterinary Service Support) on May 29.

The deal puts Army veterinarians and veterinary assistants inside city shelters, where they'll perform exams, treatments and surgeries on animals, all as part of their own clinical training.
