DENISON, Texas (KXII) - Fairview Cemetery transformed into a living piece of history Saturday morning for "Stories Beyond the Stones," a guided tour that introduced visitors to reenactors portraying notable figures buried at the cemetery.

Brian Hander, who helped build the tour and portrayed James Davenport Garner, said the event aimed to engage the public with the cemetery's history while supporting its upkeep."It takes you all around the cemetery to explore different figures that are big in our history," Hander said.

"Our hope was to create this to help support the Red River Railroad Museum and the cemetery itself, to help pay to take down some trees and do some other expenses that aren't in the normal budget."Choosing seven stories from 17,000Hander said narrowing down who to feature was a challenge given how many people are buried at Fairview."With 17,000 people to choose from, it was hard to pick just seven. But we did some that created a nice loop, and that kind of told our story from Denison throughout different periods of time," Hander said.
