FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) - As convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan's execution nears, members of Death Penalty Action gathered outside of Fort Hood today to protest.

Executive director Abraham Bonowitz said the government should not be trusted with the power to kill, and instead sentence those like Hasan to life in prison.

He said he is worried that "others may be inspired by Hasan" and the execution, which U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth proposed to be livestreamed, will put a spotlight back on Hasan's actions.
