HEARNE, Texas (KBTX) - Landowners in the Brazos Valley are pushing back against a newly proposed groundwater management plan that would allow local aquifers to drop hundreds of feet over the next 50 years.

During a public hearing on Thursday, the Brazos Valley Groundwater Conservation District debated long-term water levels through the year 2080.

A key point of contention is a proposal to allow the Simsboro Aquifer, the region's deepest water source, to drop by up to 330 feet to accommodate regional growth.
