The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office is warning residents about a scam involving payment apps such as Venmo, Zelle and Cash App.

Officials say scammers send unexpected money to someone they don't know, then claim the payment was made by mistake and ask the recipient to send it back.

The original payment may have been made with stolen or fraudulent funds and could later be reversed-leaving victims out the money they voluntarily returned.
