TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - The city of Tyler has agreed to a settlement with state regulators following wastewater permit violations at its Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant-exceedances that officials say occurred while the city was down to partial treatment capacity during an ongoing $16 million upgrade project.

According to a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) enforcement order approved on June 5, 2026, the Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant on West Cumberland Road discharged wastewater between December 2023 and April 2024 that exceeded permitted limits for ammonia nitrogen and suspended solids.

Tyler Utilities Director Kate Dietz said the city was already aware of the plant's infrastructure issues and had begun a master-planned overhaul of the facility's aeration basins before the violations occurred.
