SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - A proposed 46-acre development off South Highway 75 that includes a 40,000-square-foot convention center has been approved by Sherman's Planning and Zoning Committee.

The development, called the Ridge at Stone Creek, includes a 250-room hotel, retail shops and about 500 homes near the Stone Creek Golf Club.

Nate Strauch, Sherman's communications manager, said the city has been interested in bringing a large convention center to Sherman for years."We've seen some smaller convention spaces open up in some of the newer hotels, but this would be on a scale really that we don't have anywhere in the community right now," Strauch said."To bring something like that to the city has been something that we've long been interested in," Strauch said.
