SOUTHMAYD, Texas (KXII) - A Southmayd police officer who spent his career serving others is now waiting for a double lung transplant after being diagnosed with a rare and serious lung condition.

Chad McKee has been hospitalized for three weeks after being diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a condition that affects the lungs.

McKee said he is ready for whatever comes next."They got me on the transplant list, so now it's just a waiting game. Now that I know I'm on it, I'm excited. I'm really excited," McKee said.
