MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - Gov. Greg Abbott announced new proposals aimed at addressing Texas' housing affordability challenges by speeding up the homebuilding process and cutting construction costs across the state, including in the Permian Basin.

Abbott's plan would expand the use of pre-approved home designs and third-party inspections to speed up the permitting process.

Abbott said the changes could cut construction costs by thousands of dollars per home and reduce delays, making homeownership more affordable.
