COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Over 100 people gathered at Stephen Beachy Central Park in College Station on Saturday, as the National Alliance on Mental Illness gathered to let people know that no matter what they are going through, they aren't alone."It is crucial for people in that stage not to feel that they're going through it alone. To be able to talk to other people and say, this is what I'm going through and to hear, I understand, is huge for a lot of people with different mental health issues," said Carley Burson, Interim Executive Director, NAMI Brazos Valley.

NAMI Walks is an event to help raise awareness about mental health struggles.

Some came in support of the cause, others to honor their loved ones."I'm out here supporting my sister today who was diagnosed with a couple of mental health illnesses a few years ago. It can be definitely difficult to process that. When I first learned about her diagnosis a couple of years ago, it was like through a very traumatic event," said Kiana Levine, a NAMI Walks attendeeWhile trying to help herself and her sister through their struggles, Levine says that the support group of NAMI helped them both."I had a chance to attend a NAMI family support group a little bit ago, and it was just incredibly impactful. It was really nice to hear from other families who are impacted by mental health or have family members who do experience mental health, mental illnesses," said Levine.
