When Kerrville Police Field Operations Sgt. Tyler Cottonware woke up to begin his early morning exercise program on July 4, 2025, he discovered as he left his house in Hunt on his morning run that there was water everywhere.

He quickly evaluated and recognized the danger and called 911 to report the situation.

"I realized quickly that I needed to get to work. I called in on the radio and told dispatch that I was in command at Hunt because I knew nobody else could get there," Cottonware said.
