Texas A&M AgriLife is highlighting the Oriental persimmon, a small, easy-to-grow fruit tree, as it's named the newest Texas Superstar plant.

According to AgriLife, the Oriental persimmon, also known as Japanese persimmon, is grown in Texas and is typically grafted onto rootstock from common American persimmon, a species native to the eastern U.S. that produces a far smaller fruit than its oriental counterpart.

AgriLife said this fruit tree is prized for its near-total freedom from insect and disease pests.
