The New Braunfels Independent School District is initiating a long-range sustainability planning process as it faces a current $7 million deficit projection for its 2027-2028 budget, with deficits projected to be even greater in subsequent years.

Superintendent Laurelyn Arterbury addressed the district's financial outlook in a video message shared to the district's website and social media on Wednesday.

She said there are several factors contributing to this projected deficit.
