WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Testimony is set to begin Tuesday morning in the trial of an Itasca man who authorities say crashed his car into his ex-girlfriend's vehicle while her young daughter was inside, then shot her new boyfriend in December 2023.

Rey David Benitez-Gomez, 27, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of deadly conduct in Waco's 54th State District Court.

Prosecutors and defense attorney Bryan Cantrell spent Monday selecting a jury to hear the case, with opening statements and prosecution testimony set to begin Tuesday morning.
