WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Nearly 40% of visitors at Waco Regional Airport are skipping out on parking fees, leaving the airport short of its first-year revenue targets and prompting officials to prepare an enforcement crackdown.

One year after rolling out a paid parking system designed to end reliance on municipal and taxpayer subsidies, airport leaders report that reliance on the honor system has yielded only 60% compliance.

Visitors currently pay for parking via a mobile app or text message, but the airport has not actively enforced nonpayment over the past 12 months.
