A train destroyed an SUV Friday after slamming into it at a North Carolina crossing, officials said.

The crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. on the tracks crossing 17th Street in the town of Hickory.

A Norfolk Southern train hit the passenger side of a dark-colored SUV, crushing the vehicle in the process.
