Judge dismisses lawsuit against Amarillo ISD in case of teen's death
An Amarillo judge dismissed a lawsuit against Amarillo ISD that alleged the district violated a student's civil rights by not accommodating his epilepsy, resulting in his death in 2022.

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - An Amarillo judge has dismissed the lawsuit against Amarillo ISD involving the death of former Amarillo High School student Jaxson Mendoza.
According to court documents filed July 21, 2026, the judge dismissed the case that accused the district of violating 14-year-old Jaxson Mendoza's civil rights by not accommodating his epilepsy.
He died in August of 2022 of a seizure while warming up on the Amarillo High School track.
