The two Texas Senate candidates have taken opposing positions on school vouchers, religion in public schools, higher education costs, diversity programs and school library restrictions.

Talarico, a former public school teacher, has fought against school vouchers, book bans and the dissolution of the Texas DREAM Act while a member of the Texas House.
