The Houston Tattoo Arts Festival at NRG Center is less a single-weekend spectacle than the latest chapter in a practice that stretches back thousands of years.

The show-part of the Villain Arts tour-is currently running now through Sunday, with hours listed as 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, according to the event organizers.

Eventgoers can enjoy entertainment acts and a "Traveling Tattoo Museum" presented through the Tattoo Heritage Project, framing the weekend as both pop-culture gathering and a nod to tattooing's longer lineage.
