HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Harris County is exploring the use of artificial intelligence-equipped surveillance cameras inside the county jail to improve inmate monitoring, detect emergencies more quickly, and reduce staff workload.

County officials recently issued a request for information (RFI) seeking input from companies that provide AI-enabled camera systems.

The request is part of the county's early evaluation process and is not a commitment to purchase the technology.
