LIBERTY, Texas (KTRK) -- An investigation is underway after a contractor working on the Minglewood Wastewater Project died after the ground collapsed beneath them on Thursday, according to the City of Liberty.

City officials say the contractor was standing next to a protective box placed in the ground for worker safety when the ground beneath gave way.

"We thank God for our public servants from fire, police, and public works," a City of Liberty spokesperson said.
