LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - While severe weather season on the South Plains is typically in the spring, our area is facing its own set of risks this week.

Rainfall across the region is bringing the threat of flooding, which prompted Governor Greg Abbott to direct the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency response resources.

The American Red Cross says it is vital to plan for emergencies before they happen."You can't predict when something will happen," said Deshun Avery, executive director of the Panhandle Plains Red Cross chapter.
