HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - As families across the Houston area prepare for the first day of school, Saturday became another stop on the back-to-school checklist.

Instead of shopping for backpacks or notebooks, hundreds of parents visited Harris County Clerk annexes to pick up one document many schools require before a child can enroll.

For the first time since the annual event began, all 10 Harris County Clerk annex locations opened on a Saturday, giving families across the county more opportunities to obtain a birth certificate without taking time off work.
