A blood drive on the East Side aimed to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and the need for more diverse blood donors, especially for patients who rely on regular transfusions.

South Texas Blood & Tissue partnered with Chatman's Chicken to host the blood drive in the restaurant's parking lot on W.W. White Road as part of Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

The bloodmobile was set up from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to collect donations.
