An Angelina County resident faces serious felony charges after law enforcement officials say he brandished a firearm at a home early Thursday morning, then returned approximately an hour later to discharge multiple rounds at the residence, according to court filings.
Branden Denis Hanak, 41, was arrested at a residential property in the Rollingwood section of Lufkin following the incident. He remained in custody Monday with his bail set at $500,000 across multiple charges, including deadly conduct and aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon, according to records from the Angelina County jail.
The initial confrontation occurred just before 3:40 a.m. Thursday when deputies responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Ted Trout Drive. According to a probable cause affidavit, Hanak arrived at the location in a dark-colored Range Rover and drew a handgun after being instructed to leave the property. Before departing, Hanak allegedly told the resident that his "days were numbered," the affidavit states.
Approximately 50 minutes later, law enforcement received a second emergency dispatch to the same address. This time, the caller reported that Hanak had returned to the property and fired between seven and eight rounds near the conclusion of the driveway before driving toward Lufkin. Investigators recovered eight spent 9 mm cartridge casings from the scene.
Officers located Hanak's vehicle in the rear yard of a home in Rollingwood and approached cautiously with drawn patrol rifles. The suspect's dogs alerted him to the approaching officers, prompting him to retreat inside the residence. After securing a warrant to enter the property, deputies breached the rear entrance and discovered Hanak in the kitchen without further resistance.
If convicted on the felony charges, Hanak faces potential imprisonment ranging from two to 20 years and fines reaching $10,000.
