On Aug. 17, the Collinsville Police Department became the latest area law enforcement agency to participate in the Task Force Model under an agreement between the City of Collinsville and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 added Section 287(g) to the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The provision authorizes ICE to delegate certain immigration-enforcement functions to state and local law enforcement officers under ICE's direction and oversight.
