Texas public schools banned 8,193 books during the 2025-26 school year, more than twice as many as any other state, according to PEN America.
By the numbers: Texas public schools banned 8,193 books, while Florida had the second-highest number of banned books at 3,212.
In total, 11,982 books were banned in public schools across 23 states.
