Local Tivy freshman Kaydin Ruiz is fighting through recovery after a pneumonia infection earlier this year turned into sepsis, resulting in organ failure and limb loss.

Kaydin left the hospital May 28 after a 117-day stay and has been going through extensive rehabilitation to get back on her feet.

Kaydin's mother, Amanda Baldwin, said that after months of relying on machines and medical equipment in the hospital, her daughter left with a relatively healthy immune system.
