October is recognized across the United States as Breast Cancer Awareness month, or as the Pink Warrior Advocates call it, Flocktober.

Pink Warrior Advocates is a local nonprofit that supports individuals battling breast cancer by providing financial assistance and emotional encouragement.

The pink flamingo is a meaningful symbol for the organization, hence the name Flocktober, as it represents strength, resilience and community, according to a proclamation by the New Braunfels City Council on Sept. 28. "[The pink flamingo] stands as a reminder for all who see it to think of and support the mission of this organization," the proclamation stated.
