AUSTIN, Texas (KBTX) - Behind locked doors in Central Texas, scientists spend their days turning burnt debris, gunshot residue and stolen pills into courtroom evidence.

The Texas Department of Public Safety let cameras inside its Austin Crime Laboratory this week for a rare look at how evidence is processed in some of the state's biggest cases, timed to National Forensic Science Week."National Forensic Science Week is really important to celebrate the hard-working analysts that we have here within the laboratory system," said Sarah Hall, a Forensic Scientist in the Trace Evidence Division.

The lab is broken into sections, each handling a different type of evidence.
