The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed the first case of New World screwworm in a horse in Texas.

The U.S. Equestrian Federation reported the parasite was found Sept. 9 in the hind leg of a working ranch horse in Presidio County, in the Big Bend region.

This marks the first reported New World screwworm case in a horse in the United States.
