LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Lufkin's property tax rate isn't going up next year, but the city still expects to collect more money from taxpayers, due to to rising property values and new construction added to the tax rolls.

The Lufkin City Council voted 6-1 Monday night to approve the first reading of a tax rate ordinance keeping the rate unchanged at 52. 8215 cents per $100 of taxable property value - the same rate as last year.

Ward 1 Councilwoman Angela Hobbs-Spencer cast the lone "nay" vote.
