WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Six Central Texas veterans were recognized Wednesday night for their wartime valor and lasting contributions at home during the 2026 Heart of Texas Congressional Veteran Commendation Ceremony.

Hosted by U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Waco, at the Lee Lockwood Library and Museum Flag Room, the annual event honors former service members across Texas' 17th Congressional District who have demonstrated distinguished military careers and continued service in civilian life.

The Congressional Veteran Commendation is a nominations-based initiative held in conjunction with the Veterans History Project, sponsored by the Library of Congress to record and archive veterans' oral histories for future generations."Each year, I have what's called the Congressional Veterans Commendation," Sessions said.
