HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston is taking a closer look at what could eventually happen to a 240-acre tract of land in Sunnyside that has sat largely unused for decades.

Houston City Council recently approved a partnership with the nonprofit Houston Land Bank for what the city calls "due diligence and reuse planning" for the former Sunnyside Landfill, located just south of the 610 Loop near Texas 288.

The landfill on West Belfort Avenue has been vacant for more than 50 years.
